Course Description:
This course will introduce system administrators to the technology and concepts that they need to use to configure, implement, and manage a SAN.
SAN topologies, design rules and restrictions are examined as well as integrating different types of operating systems into the same SAN.
The course introduces the basic concepts of the Fibre Channel architectures as implemented in a SAN. Switch configuration and management is thoroughly discussed in lecture and lab. This includes upgrading switch firmware and backing up SAN configurations. Zoning concepts and commands are examined and tested in both lecture and lab.
The need for extensive SAN documentation is presented along with specific examples and documentation techniques. Real world examples are presented throughout the course.
After the completion of the course students will be able to describe how a SAN works and be familiar with the technical details of how to actually implement a SAN in a typical IT infrastructure.
This course is intended for individuals involved in the support of Storage Area Networks from both a technical perspective as well as a theoretical one. This includes people working on the day to day support and administration of
SAN's and those people planning, installing and implementing
SAN's. The student will be expected to be familiar with some basic administrative aspects of networking fundamentals and system administration.
